Our marks, criterion by criterion
Price per GB
3.6Above the average of our comparison: 5 GB over 30 days in France for $10.49 (about €9.02), 1 GB over 7 days for $3.89 (about €3.35), 20 GB for $24.45. Prices are shown in dollars only; the euro figure is our ECB-rate conversion.
Coverage
4.4189 countries in the esimrat catalogue, plus 16 regional bundles matched to 10 zones (Europe, Balkans, Asia, Caribbean, Latin America, North America, Gulf, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, worldwide). 5G advertised per country: in France, Orange, SFR, Bouygues and Free Mobile.
App
4.0Esimatic app on iOS and Android: purchase, usage and validity tracking, top-up and plan switch from the app. The QR code arrives by email.
Support
3.5Chat on the site (Crisp widget) advertised "around the clock" on the home page, no phone or email published. A 2024 Trustpilot review describes a web form and an automated reply with no way to escalate; a 2025 review calls customer service friendly.
Transparency
3.4The "Day Plans" sold without a displayed volume cap at 1 GB a day at full speed, then 1.25 Mbps: the help centre says so, the plan card does not. Dollar prices only for a European buyer. Refund only for a technical problem, nothing for a purchase by mistake or an incompatible phone.
Flexibility
4.2From 1 GB over 7 days to 100 GB over 30 days (up to 180 days in some countries), Day Plans from 1 to 30 days, 16 regional bundles, top-up without a new QR code. The plan only starts at the first connection and keeps for 12 months unused.
Technical note
An overview of Esimatic's performance across 6 criteria
How we score
This score is eSIMrat's own, not an average of customer reviews. It covers six criteria we assess ourselves from the catalogue's real coverage, the prices we record, and test purchases and installs. We earn a commission on sales made through our links: it changes neither the score nor the order of our rankings, which stay sorted by price per GB.
The eSIMrat verdict
Esimatic covers a lot of ground (189 countries and 16 regional bundles on our side) with a simple grid: seven volumes from 1 to 100 GB, and "Day Plans" from 1 to 30 days. The eSIM installs before departure, only starts at the first connection, tops up without a new QR code and is managed from the app. Three caveats: prices are in dollars only (5 GB over 30 days in France for $10.49, about €9.02, above the average of our comparison), the Day Plans sold as unlimited cap at 1 GB a day at full speed then 1.25 Mbps, and the refund covers technical problems only.
Good for
- Travellers who want a simple grid, the same in almost every country
- Multi-country stays on a regional bundle (Europe, Balkans, Caribbean, Asia)
- Buying well ahead: the plan waits for the first connection
Less suited if
- You compare on price per GB for a month-long stay (→ Roamify)
- You want unlimited without a daily cap (→ Holafly)
- You want excellent value per GB, an eSIM that is simple to install with an easy-to-use app and human support 24/7 (→ voilà eSIM)
- You want to pay in euros, at the displayed price (→ Nomad, Yesim)
Pros and cons
Pros
- The same grid almost everywhere: 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 GB
- 16 regional bundles, including a 36-destination Europe
- The plan only starts at the first connection and keeps for 12 months
- Top-up and usage tracking in the app, no new QR code
- Tethering included, no hidden fees advertised
Cons
- Dollar prices only, the euro depends on your bank's rate
- "Day Plan" = 1 GB a day at full speed, then 1.25 Mbps
- Fixed-volume plans pricier per GB than Roamify, Esimzon or Nomad
- Refund limited to technical problems, nothing for an incompatible phone
- Support by chat and form only, mixed reviews on its responsiveness

How to install your eSIM with Esimatic
Buy your plan
Buy on esimatic.com or in the Esimatic app (iOS and Android), in dollars. The QR code arrives by email right after payment.
Pick your destination
Choose your destination and your data plan.
Scan the QR code
Pay and scan the QR code to install the eSIM.
Get connected
Install the eSIM before departure: installing uses nothing. The plan starts at the first kilobyte exchanged with data roaming enabled on the Esimatic line, on arrival. Unused, it stays valid for 12 months.
If something goes wrong
Check that your phone is eSIM-compatible and unlocked, then scan the QR code from the email over a stable Wi-Fi connection. If it stalls, the chat on the site is the only channel: Esimatic publishes no phone or email. Note that an incompatible phone does not qualify for a refund.
Turn on data roaming on the Esimatic line and select it for mobile data: the plan only starts at the first kilobyte exchanged while roaming. If the network does not attach, manually pick one of the carriers listed on the country page (in France: Orange, SFR, Bouygues, Free Mobile).
Look at per-app usage in your phone's settings to spot the hungry apps. Turn off automatic updates and high-resolution video playback. Your remaining data shows in your Esimatic account, or in its app when there is one.
Check your spam folder. The QR code is emailed after purchase and stays available in your Esimatic account. Contact support for a resend if needed.
What users say
Reviews synthesised from the App Store, Google Play and online feedback. We do not republish reviews word for word: we summarise the trend.
- ★★★★★Trustpilot
Purchase and activation judged very simple, online within minutes, far easier than hunting for a SIM card on site.
- ★★★★★Trustpilot
App judged simple and practical: buy a plan and be online right away, no physical SIM card.
- ★☆☆☆☆Trustpilot
Judged overpriced: the advertised unlimited hides throttling in the fine print. Friendly customer service, but the same service would cost a third of the price elsewhere.
- ★☆☆☆☆Trustpilot
eSIM bought for Australia that never worked; the only recourse was a form on the site, with a generic automated reply and no way to escalate.

Frequently asked questions
In France, Esimatic sells 1 GB over 7 days for $3.89 (about €3.35), 5 GB over 30 days for $10.49 (about €9.02) and 10 GB over 30 days for $17.25 (about €14.84). Yes, on fixed-volume plans and Day Plans alike: the help centre explains how to set up tethering on iPhone and Android.
An eSIM works on most smartphones released after 2019: iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. Our eSIM-compatible phones page lists the models.
Yes. Most recent smartphones handle a physical SIM (calls, texts, your number) and an eSIM from Esimatic (mobile data) side by side. You keep your usual number and use the eSIM for the Internet.
Only for a technical problem, through support. Esimatic refunds neither a purchase by mistake nor a phone that does not take eSIMs: check compatibility before paying. A cancelled plan does not return the remaining data.
A travel eSIM gives you ordinary Internet access. Any restrictions (China, Iran) come from the network of the country you visit, and the plan page says so when the provider documents them.
Yes: buy the same plan again on the shop or in the Esimatic app, it adds to the already installed eSIM without a new QR code, as long as it has not expired. The app shows remaining usage and validity.
