Best eSIM for Thailand in 2026: 6 providers compared

You are heading to Thailand and want data the moment you land in Bangkok, without paying your carrier's roaming or queuing at the airport counter. An eSIM is bought before you leave, installs in two minutes and activates on arrival.

We ran 6 providers through the same grid: price per GB, network used on the ground (AIS, True or dtac), coverage on the islands and in the north, reliability, support, how simple the app is and plan flexibility. The ranking first, then each offer in detail and the eSIM to pick for your profile.

voilà eSIM: the best value eSIM for Thailand

8.8/10

Under €1 per GB (€0.81/GB), access to the AIS and DTAC networks that cover the country out to the islands, an app that installs in two minutes and human support available 24/7. Esimzon and Airalo are cheaper per GB, with weaker support and apps.

How we ranked these eSIMs

Each eSIM is scored on six weighted criteria. Price per GB and network coverage make up half the score: in Thailand, 4G and 5G are excellent in Bangkok, on the coasts and on the tourist islands, but only decent in Isan and the mountainous north. The network your provider puts you on matters as soon as you leave the big cities.

  • Price per GB25 %

Cost per gigabyte on each provider's cheapest plan, excluding one-off promotions.

  • Network coverage25 %

Thai network used and its reach beyond Bangkok: islands, coasts, Isan, the mountainous north.

  • Reliability15 %

Connection stability, real-world speeds and the provider's track record.

  • Support15 %

Whether a human answers, through which channel, at what hours and in which language.

  • Activation and app10 %

How easy the install is, how clear the app is and how usage is tracked.

  • Plan flexibility10 %

Choice of data amounts and durations, top-ups, unlimited option.

On these criteria, voilà eSIM comes out on top: under €1 per GB (€0.81/GB), the AIS and DTAC networks, a simple app and 24/7 human support. Esimzon and Airalo do better on price per GB alone, Ubigi and Saily on unlimited data.

Scores are the opinion of the eSIMrat editorial team, based on the criteria above, not customer reviews. eSIMrat earns a commission on links to its partners, which does not affect the ranking.

The Thailand eSIM ranking

The 6 eSIMs compared, from highest to lowest score. The price per GB shown is that of each provider's cheapest plan per gigabyte, often a large plan: a small 1 or 3 GB plan costs more per GB. Partner prices come from the Thailand comparator and refresh on every build.

Each Thailand eSIM in detail

  1. voilà eSIM

    1. voilà eSIM

    8.8/10
    €0.81/GBAIS and DTACData plans

Two major networks, simple app, 24/7 human support

voilà eSIM is a French eSIM brand that connects you to AIS and DTAC, the two largest networks in the country: AIS reaches the islands, and the dtac network (now merged with True) stays solid in Bangkok and along the tourist routes. You switch to the best signal available.

The price per GB goes down to €0.81/GB on its 20 GB plan valid 30 days. Note that its 50 GB costs more per GB than the 20 GB, which is unusual: for a long stay, two 20 GB plans beat one 50 GB. Plans run from 1 to 50 GB over 7, 15 or 30 days, no commitment, tethering included. The ESIMRAT promo code takes 5% off.

The eSIM is simple to install and the app is easy to use: two minutes in the app before you leave, automatic activation when you land. Customer support is human, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which no other provider in this comparison offers. That is what makes its value for money, more than the price alone.

    Pros

    • AIS and DTAC networks, the two widest in the country
    • 24/7 human support, simple app, tethering included
    • Good value for money: €0.81/GB without being the cheapest per GB

    Cons

    • No unlimited plan
    • The 50 GB costs more per GB than the 20 GB
  2. Airalo

    2. Airalo

    8.2/10
€0.50/GBTrue and AISData, multi-country and unlimited plans

Global catalogue, full-featured app, cheap 50 GB

Airalo is the market pioneer, available in more than 200 destinations. Its Thailand eSIM runs on the True and AIS networks, which Airalo states clearly on the plan page. The price per GB drops to €0.50/GB on its 50 GB valid 30 days, better than voilà eSIM on that criterion.

The app is complete: purchase, install, usage tracking and top-ups without changing eSIM. Regional Asia plans help if you chain Thailand with Vietnam or Cambodia, and an unlimited option exists. Support, by chat and in English, is the weakness reported most often: replies can take several hours.

    Pros

    • Very low price per GB on the 50 GB
    • Regional and unlimited plans, in-app top-ups
    • Carrier stated on every plan

    Cons

    • English support, sometimes slow
    • Small plans are expensive per GB
  3. Ubigi

    3. Ubigi

    8.1/10
€0.90/GBLocal networksData, monthly and unlimited plans

    NTT subsidiary, euro pricing, unlimited

Ubigi is the brand of Transatel, a subsidiary of Japan's NTT group. It does not name the Thai carrier up front on its coverage page: you find out once connected. Its price per GB sits at €0.90/GB, mid-table in this comparison.

Prices are shown in euros, the app supports top-ups and offers one-off or monthly plans, plus a 30-day unlimited. Support works by ticket, in English and French, with a response delay rather than an instant chat.

    Pros

    • NTT group, euro pricing
    • Monthly and unlimited plans, top-ups available

    Cons

    • Carrier not stated up front
    • Ticket-based support, no live chat
  4. Esimzon

    4. Esimzon

    8.0/10
    €0.19/GBAIS and TrueData plans

Lowest price per GB in the comparison

Esimzon is a prepaid reseller that competes on price alone. In Thailand it connects you to AIS and True and posts the lowest price per GB in the comparison, €0.19/GB, thanks to a 50 GB plan valid only 10 days. On a 10 GB over 30 days, it is still the cheapest of the six.

The flip side: prices are shown in dollars on its site (the euro follows the daily rate), activation is by QR code without a proper usage app, and support goes through email or chat in English. A good pick if you use a lot of data over a short trip and can install an eSIM on your own.

    Pros

    • Unbeatable price per GB, AIS and True networks
    • Also the cheapest on a 10 GB over 30 days

    Cons

    • Dollar pricing, QR-code activation without a full app
    • Email or chat support, in English
  5. Saily

    5. Saily

    7.9/10
    €0.90/GBLocal networksData and unlimited plans

By Nord Security, built-in web protection

Saily is Nord Security's eSIM, the company behind NordVPN. The price per GB sits at €0.90/GB, roughly level with Ubigi, with euro pricing and an unlimited option. The Thai carrier is not specified before purchase.

Its strength is the app: simple, with an ad and tracker blocker and built-in web protection, handy on hotel wifi. Support is a 24/7 chat, in English.

    Pros

    • Simple app, ad blocker and web protection
    • Unlimited available, euro pricing

    Cons

    • Carrier not stated up front
    • English-only chat
  6. Yesim

    6. Yesim

    7.6/10
€0.68/GBAIS, dtac and TrueMoveDaily plans to unlimited

    Reusable eSIM, daily plans

Yesim is a Swiss provider whose eSIM stays on your phone from one trip to the next: you buy a new plan without reinstalling anything. In Thailand it lists AIS, dtac and TrueMove. The price per GB drops to €0.68/GB on its 50 GB, but its standard plans hover around €1 per GB.

The catalogue runs from a one-day plan to 30-day unlimited, which suits short stopovers. The app is decent and support is by chat.

    Pros

    • Reusable eSIM across trips
    • One-day to unlimited plans, three networks listed

    Cons

    • Standard plans cost more per GB than the top three
    • Chat-only support

eSIM or local SIM card in Thailand?

Tourist SIMs from AIS, True and dtac are sold at Suvarnabhumi airport and in 7-Eleven stores, with passport registration required. They are cheap, but you lose time at the counter and you change number. An eSIM activates before you leave, you keep your usual SIM for calls and bank texts, and the price per GB at the best providers is now under €1.

A local SIM keeps the edge if you stay several months or need a Thai number for deliveries and local apps. For a two to four week trip, the eSIM is simpler. If you continue to Bali, we ran the same comparison for the best eSIM for Indonesia.

What to check on your phone before buying

Two conditions: an eSIM-compatible phone (iPhone XS and newer, Pixel 3 and later, Galaxy S20 and later, among others) and a carrier-unlocked one. A phone bought subsidised from a carrier may be locked: ask for the unlock before you leave. The full list is on our eSIM-compatible phones page.

Install the eSIM over wifi before take-off, without activating it if the provider allows, then turn on data roaming for the eSIM line when you land. Keep your home SIM active to receive texts, but switch off its mobile data to avoid any roaming bill.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best eSIM for Thailand?

How much does an eSIM for Thailand cost?

Which network has the best coverage in Thailand?
AIS is the largest network in the country and reaches the islands. True, merged with dtac, offers very good national coverage and an excellent network in Bangkok. In Isan and the mountainous north, coverage is decent at best, whichever carrier you are on.
Is 5G included with an eSIM in Thailand?
At most providers, yes, on the AIS and True networks, which have rolled out 5G in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and on the main islands. You need a 5G-capable phone, and the provider must state it on the plan.
Can you tether with an eSIM in Thailand?
Yes at voilà eSIM, Airalo, Ubigi, Saily and Yesim, which allow tethering on their data plans. Unlimited plans sometimes restrict tethering or slow down past a daily volume: check the plan page before buying.
