Free Mobile country list: the destinations included abroad (2026)
The Forfait Free 5G+ (€19.99/month) includes 35 GB of mobile internet per month from 117 destinations, and the Forfait Free Max (€29.99/month) moves up to unlimited internet in more than 140 destinations. Europe, the French overseas departments, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, China, Thailand, Brazil and Australia are covered; Japan, Morocco and Singapore, however, are only included with the Free Max.
Looking for the up-to-date Free Mobile country list? In this complete rundown, we go through the list of countries included in each Free mobile plan (Europe and overseas zone, Americas, Asia, Africa, Oceania), the prices and the internet allowance abroad, actual coverage and the network used in roaming, the fair-use limits, the out-of-plan fees that sting, and the travel eSIM alternative when you head to a country off the list. We also answer the question asked a thousand different ways: which countries are free with Free Mobile, and why included does not mean unlimited. Then we go through the most searched destinations one by one, from Vietnam to Mauritius. Prices and lists checked on the carrier's official documents in August 2026.

Free plans and travel: what is really included in 2026
Free, the carrier of the iliad group founded by Xavier Niel, structures its mobile offer around four plans, and their international coverage varies wildly from one to another. Before hunting for your destination in the list, you need to know which Free mobile plan you carry.
Forfait Free 5G+ (€19.99/month commitment-free, €9.99/month for Freebox Pop subscribers): 350 GB in France, unlimited calls and texts, and abroad an internet allowance of 35 GB/month usable from 117 destinations, with unlimited calls and texts from Europe and the overseas departments.
Forfait Free Max (€29.99/month, €19.99/month for Freebox subscribers, the discount also open to Box 5G subscribers through the Free Family perks): the international Free plan par excellence, with unlimited mobile internet in 4G or 5G depending on the destination from more than 140 destinations, and unlimited calls to landlines in 100 destinations. The SIM card or eSIM is billed €10 at order time.
Série Free (€12.99/month for a year, then switching to the Forfait Free 5G+): 110 GB in France and 30 GB from Europe and the overseas departments only. Outside Europe, nothing is included.
€2 plan (free for Freebox subscribers): 50 MB of data and 2 hours of calls. Free also offers an eSIM Watch option to connect an Apple Watch, on compatible plans. Abroad, you must activate the Voyage option from the subscriber area, with a €10 usage advance by bank card.
The rat's advice: many articles still talk about "the €19.99 Free plan and its 25 GB". That is dated: the allowance has moved to 35 GB/month, and the official list counts 117 destinations in the price brochure of 21 July 2026. When you compare, always check the survey date.
The full list of 117 destinations included in the Forfait Free 5G+
Here is the country list where the Forfait Free 5G+'s 35 GB work, as published in Free's official price brochure (version of 21/07/2026). We reorganised it by zone so you can spot your destination at a glance.

Which countries are free with Free Mobile? What being included means
The question shows up everywhere as which countries are free with Free Mobile, and the wording misleads. No destination is free in the strict sense: you already pay for your plan every month. What is free is the extra charge. In an included destination, your data, calls and texts trigger no additional billing as long as you stay inside the allowance.
In practice, every destination falls into one of three buckets. Included: your usage comes out of the plan's travel allowance, 35 GB per month on the Forfait Free 5G+, unlimited on the Free Max, and you pay nothing more. Not included but covered: the local network works and your phone connects to it, but every megabyte is billed out of plan, up to €9.70/MB. Suspended: Free reserves the right to cut a destination for technical or security reasons, in which case nothing goes through.
Second common mix-up: assuming an included destination means everything is unlimited. On the Forfait Free 5G+, mobile internet stops at 35 GB per month, and calls and texts are unlimited only from Europe and the French overseas departments. From the United States, Thailand or Brazil, data does sit inside the Free Mobile roaming countries list, but your calls follow the local rate. That nuance is what produces surprise bills on the way home.
The rat's advice: check the name of the territory you land in, not the name of its mainland. Free lists some territories separately: the Balearics and the Canaries sit under Spain, but Saint Martin, Saint Barthélemy and Curaçao appear as destinations in their own right, sometimes in one plan and not the other.
Forfait Free Max: more than 140 destinations unlimited
The Forfait Free Max carries over the whole 5G+ list and adds some twenty destinations, with one sizeable difference: mobile internet there is unlimited, in 4G or 5G depending on the country, with no 35 GB allowance to watch.
The notable additions over the Forfait Free 5G+: Japan, Morocco, Singapore, Laos, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Mauritius, Azerbaijan, Mali, Zanzibar, Ecuador, Uruguay, Curaçao and several Pacific islands (Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea).
In other words, if you head to Tokyo, Marrakesh or Singapore with the Forfait Free 5G+, your destination is not included: data there falls into out-of-plan billing. With the Free Max, those three destinations are covered unlimited. That is Free's main argument to push its premium plan to travellers, and on those precise destinations, it is real.
The Free Max also adds unlimited calls from France to mobiles in the United States, Canada, Hawaii, China and the overseas departments, and to landlines in 100 destinations: useful if you regularly call family abroad, not just when travelling.
Forfait Free at €19.99 abroad: how the included 35 GB work
How roaming works at Free is simpler than its reputation suggests: in an included destination, there is nothing to activate. You land, your phone latches onto a local partner network, and your calls, texts and data work. Free confirms it on its support page: "no activation is needed" to use your plan in an included destination. The network used is that of local partner carriers.
The plan's international allowance gives you 35 GB per month of mobile internet at no extra cost, dedicated to roaming and separate from your 350 GB in France. Your number stays active for international communications, calls and texts alike. Beyond the 35 GB, billing resumes at €0.0013/MB from Europe, the overseas departments, Moldova and Ukraine, and at each country's going rate from other destinations, which can climb very fast (more below).
On the network side, you get 4G or 5G depending on the roaming agreements struck with each country's partner carriers, within their coverage zones. Wi-Fi calls (VoWiFi) from abroad are billed like communications from France: handy in a hotel with solid Wi-Fi.
One rule of the game remains: usage must stay "reasonable use of the services". The price brochure targets abusive usage (permanent use outside France, network disruption): the included roaming is designed for trips, not for living abroad year-round on a French plan.
5G abroad deserves a clarification, because the plan's name does not guarantee it. The Forfait Free 5G+ gives you 5G in France; internationally you are served in 4G or 5G depending on the agreements signed with the local partner carrier and on its coverage area. In most included destinations, 4G remains the norm, and it is more than enough for travel use.
Is 35 GB a month a lot? It depends on what you do. Browsing, messaging and maps use little; video streaming and video calls eat the allowance in a few days. To turn your habits into gigabytes before you leave, run them through our mobile data usage calculator.
The limits Free does not advertise
First limit: the list is not the whole world. Highly requested destinations are missing from both plans, notably the Philippines, Taiwan, Cambodia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Peru, Chile, Cuba, Kenya and Ivory Coast. There, no data is included, whatever your Free plan.
Second limit: the out-of-plan fees. Data outside included destinations is billed per MB, and the rates in the brochure are dizzying: €9.70/MB in Japan or Singapore with the Forfait Free 5G+, €3.00/MB in Morocco, €3.95/MB in South Africa beyond the allowance. At €9.70 per MB, a single gigabyte would run into thousands of euros: in practice, you cut the data and look for a plan B.
Third limit: the €2 plan and the Série Free are not travel plans. The first requires the Voyage option and a €10 advance, the second stops at the borders of Europe and the overseas departments. If you go far with either, plan a proper connectivity solution.
One last point of caution: Free specifies that some destinations can be suspended for technical or security reasons, and that the lists evolve. The full list on this page reflects the brochure of 21/07/2026: a glance at the official search bar, available on mobile.free.fr, remains the right reflex before packing. And if a doubt persists, contact support from your subscriber area.
Free abroad, destination by destination
Here are the destinations Free subscribers ask about most, with a clear answer for each. Statuses taken from the 21/07/2026 price brochure.
Free in Vietnam: included from the Forfait Free 5G+. Vietnam sits in the Asia zone of the 117 destinations, your 35 GB work there with nothing to activate, and the Free Max makes it unlimited. For a long stay, compare local offers on our Vietnam eSIM page.
Free in Mauritius: absent from the Forfait Free 5G+, included and unlimited on the Free Max. It is one of the costliest gaps between the two plans for French travellers. On the 5G+, data goes out of plan the moment you land: plan a Mauritius eSIM or turn mobile data off.
Japan: Free Max only. On the 5G+, out-of-plan data reaches €9.70/MB, the highest rate on the price list.
Morocco: Free Max only, €3.00/MB out of plan on the 5G+. Our guide to internet in Morocco covers the options once you are there.
Thailand, Indonesia (so Bali), Malaysia, Sri Lanka: all included from the Forfait Free 5G+. Beyond 35 GB, or with a plan that does not include Indonesia, our ranking of the best eSIMs for Bali and Indonesia compares six offers based on price per GB.
United States and Canada: included from the 5G+. On the American side, Free specifies that Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are covered.
Turkey, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, United Arab Emirates: included from the 5G+. Dubai therefore falls inside the 35 GB allowance.
China, Hong Kong, Macao, South Korea, India: included from the 5G+, China with Tibet.
Senegal, Madagascar, South Africa, Tanzania, Comoros: included from the 5G+. Watch out in South Africa: past the allowance, data restarts at €3.95/MB.
Australia and New Zealand: included from the 5G+, with Tasmania and the Chatham Islands.
Missing from both lists: the Philippines, Taiwan, Cambodia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Peru, Chile, Cuba, Kenya, Ivory Coast. No Free plan includes data there, whatever your subscription.
Your destination is not included? The plan B that avoids out-of-plan billing
If your destination escapes the list, or you are on Série Free or the €2 plan, the simplest solution is a travel eSIM: a local data plan you install via QR code before leaving, while your Free line stays active for calls and texts. If the concept is new to you, we explain what an eSIM is in detail.
Take the most telling case: Japan, absent from the Forfait Free 5G+. Prices checked on 18/08/2026 on the providers' official websites, for a Japan eSIM data plan: voilà from €1.30 per GB, Saily from €3.49, Holafly from €3.79 (on an unlimited-data model billed by duration), Airalo from €4.00. Against Free's €9.70/MB out-of-plan rate, the maths is settled: €1.30 at the cheapest in the survey buys a whole gigabyte, more than 1,000 times what the same euro buys out of plan.
On that Japan survey, voilà posts the lowest entry price of the four: solid value for money on that precise scope. The brand also plays the simplicity card, with an eSIM that is easy to install and an easy-to-use app, and human customer support, reachable 24/7. Facing it, each competitor has its turf: Airalo claims the widest destination catalogue, Holafly unlimited without counting, Saily automatic activation on arrival. To choose well, start from your real data need: the right provider depends on your usage profile, not on a universal winner, and you can subscribe online in minutes in every case.
To compare offers destination by destination, our comparator does the work: every provider's prices on the Japan eSIM, and the same for every country from the destinations page. Surveys are redone by hand, regularly, and dated.
The rat's advice: even when your destination is included at Free, run the numbers on long stays. 35 GB per month is comfortable for a week, tighter over a month of remote work. A complementary local eSIM costs a few euros and spares you finishing the stay at €0.0013/MB, or worse, at the country's rate.
Free or travel eSIM: the verdict by profile
You have the Forfait Free 5G+ and your destination is in the list of 117: travel easy, 35 GB comfortably covers a classic stay between maps, social media and messaging. It is one of the best French plans on this criterion, with nothing extra to pay.
You are heading to Japan, Morocco or Singapore: with the 5G+, you either move up to the Forfait Free Max (€10 more per month, unlimited internet on site), or take a travel eSIM for a few euros. For a single two-week trip, the eSIM is almost always cheaper; for a frequent traveller stacking premium destinations, the Max pays for itself.
You are on Série Free, the €2 plan, or your destination is nowhere in the lists: the travel eSIM is your default option. Compare providers on your destination, look at the price per GB and the validity period, and check that your phone is compatible: most smartphones released since 2018-2019 are, and our providers page and comparator help you settle it in two minutes.
You work remotely from abroad for several months: neither Free's roaming nor its fair use are designed for that. A high-capacity local data eSIM, renewed on site, remains the cleanest and cheapest solution.
