Technical note
An overview of Holafly's performance across 6 criteria
How we score
This score is eSIMrat's own, not an average of customer reviews. It covers six criteria we assess ourselves from the catalogue's real coverage, the prices we record, and test purchases and installs. We earn a commission on sales made through our links: it changes neither the score nor the order of our rankings, which stay sorted by price per GB.
The eSIMrat verdict
Holafly built its reputation on a single promise: unlimited data, billed per day, on 200+ destinations. You do not pick a volume, you pick dates, and the "how many GB" question disappears. Support answers 24/7 over chat, WhatsApp and email, and the refund policy is spelled out in full. The flip side is the price: on a short trip with light use, a volume plan often costs less, and tethering is capped depending on the plan.
Good for
- Heavy users: video, calls, remote work
- Travellers who do not want to estimate their usage
- Cruises and regional itineraries covered by a single eSIM
- Anyone who wants support in their language at any hour
Less suited if
- You use little data and compare on price per GB (→ Esimzon, Airalo)
- You need to send texts (→ Sim Local, Yesim)
- You want uncapped tethering (→ Roamify, Saily)
- You prefer a volume plan with excellent value for money, an eSIM that is simple to install, an easy-to-use app and human support 24/7 (→ voilà eSIM)
Pros and cons
Pros
- Unlimited data on 200+ destinations

Cons
- Expensive per GB for light use or a short trip
- Tethering capped depending on the plan
- No texts, calls only on some eSIMs with a number
- Prices not yet in our comparator, no product feed yet
How to install your eSIM with Holafly
Buy your plan
Order on esim.holafly.com or in the Holafly app (iOS or Android): you pick the destination and the number of days.
Pick your destination
Choose your destination and your data plan.
Scan the QR code
Pay and scan the QR code to install the eSIM.
Get connected
Turn the connection on when you land. That's it.
If something goes wrong
Check that your phone is eSIM-compatible and unlocked, then follow the automatic install or scan the QR code over a stable Wi-Fi connection. If it stalls, Holafly support answers 24/7 over chat, WhatsApp or email.
Turn Airplane mode on and off again. Check that the eSIM from Holafly is selected for mobile data in your settings. Turn data roaming on. Restart the phone. If nothing changes, switch network selection to manual and pick another operator.
Look at per-app usage in your phone's settings to spot the hungry apps. Turn off automatic updates and high-resolution video playback. Your remaining data shows in your Holafly account, or in its app when there is one.
Check your spam folder, then open the Holafly app: the purchased eSIM is there with its automatic install, no QR code needed. Otherwise the chat or WhatsApp, 24/7, resends the code.

Frequently asked questions
At Holafly you do not pick a volume but days, unlimited. In Japan, read on their site on 11 September 2026: €18.50 for 5 days, €33.90 for 10 days, €68.90 for 30 days. The daily price falls with length, so take the exact length of your stay, no more, no less.
Yes, tethering is available, but with a quota that depends on the plan: Holafly advertises it unlimited on its monthly plans and per daily allowance on destination eSIMs, the shareable total varying with the duration. Read the plan page before buying if you intend to connect a laptop.
An eSIM works on most smartphones released after 2019: iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. Our eSIM-compatible phones page lists the models.
Yes. Most recent smartphones handle a physical SIM (calls, texts, your number) and an eSIM from Holafly (mobile data) side by side. You keep your usual number and use the eSIM for the Internet.
Yes, and the rule is public: full refund if the eSIM was not activated, within 6 months of purchase, including for an incompatible phone (screenshot required). For a faulty connection, contact support first; the refund is full or pro rata. Outside these cases a $3.50 fee applies. Request it at help@holafly.com, processed within 5 to 10 working days.
No. A Holafly eSIM gives you a standard data connection on the local network: messaging, banking apps, video and VPNs work normally, subject to the visited country's own restrictions.
Data is unlimited, so there is no volume to top up. If your stay runs longer, you buy extra days from the app or the site. Outside a plan, the Always On perk keeps 1 GB of backup data a month in 150+ countries.
