Best eSIM for Canada in 2026: 6 providers compared

Canada is one of the destinations where mobile data costs the most in the world, for Canadians and visitors alike: a local SIM comes at a premium and roaming outside your plan is prohibitive. A Canada eSIM installs before you leave, activates when you land in Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver, and you keep your usual SIM for calls.

We ran 6 providers through the same grid: price per GB, network used on the ground (Rogers, Bell or Telus), coverage outside the cities, in the Rockies and along the Gaspé road, support, how simple the app and the activation are, and plan flexibility. The ranking first, then each offer in detail.

voilà eSIM: the Rogers network and human support for Canada

7.9/10

Rogers, the country's largest network, 5G on the 20 and 50 GB plans, an eSIM that installs in two minutes and human support available 24/7, for €1.44/GB. Ubigi and Esimzon do better on price per GB alone.

How we ranked these eSIMs

Each eSIM is scored on six criteria, weighted for Canada. Price per GB and network coverage weigh the most: the country is expensive for every provider, and coverage concentrates along the US border, where nine Canadians out of ten live. As soon as you head up to the national parks or the North, the network used makes the difference. Scores are the editorial team's opinion, not an average of customer reviews.

  • Price per GB25 %

Cost per gigabyte on each provider's cheapest plan, excluding one-off promotions.

  • Network coverage25 %

Getting signal in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver, on the Trans-Canada Highway, in the Rockies and in Gaspésie.

  • Reliability15 %

Connection stability, seriousness of the partner carrier and the provider's reputation.

  • Support15 %

Available channels, opening hours, human or automated answers.

  • Activation and app10 %

How simple the install is, how clear the app is, data usage tracking.

  • Plan flexibility10 %

Choice of volumes and durations, unlimited, top-ups, tethering.

On these criteria, voilà eSIM comes out on top thanks to the Rogers network, its clear app and its 24/7 human support, with a price per GB in the middle of the comparison (€1.44/GB). Ubigi takes second place with the lowest price per GB and the best unlimited, Esimzon third with the cheapest small plans.

Scores are the opinion of the eSIMrat editorial team, based on the criteria above, not customer reviews. eSIMrat earns a commission on links to its partners, which does not affect the ranking.

The ranking of eSIMs for Canada

The 6 eSIMs compared, from the highest to the lowest score. The price per GB shown is the cheapest per gigabyte at each provider, often a large 30-day plan: a small one-week plan costs more per GB. At Esimzon, it is a 15 GB plan, its largest.

Each Canada eSIM in detail

  1. voilà eSIM

    1. voilà eSIM

    7.9/10
    €1.44/GBRogersData plans, 1 to 50 GB

Rogers network, 5G, 24/7 human support

voilà eSIM runs on Rogers, Canada's largest carrier, whose network covers the most Canadians and holds up well on the Trans-Canada Highway, in the Rockies and in Quebec. 5G is included on the 20 and 50 GB plans, 4G on the others.

The rate drops to €1.44/GB on the 50 GB plan, in the middle of the comparison: Ubigi and Esimzon do better per GB, Airalo, Yesim and Saily do worse. Plans run from 1 to 50 GB over 7, 15 or 30 days, with no commitment, and tethering is included. The code ESIMRAT gives 5% off, see the promo codes page.

It is the easiest offer to get started with: the eSIM installs in two minutes from an app that is easy to use, and human support answers 24/7, which matters with a six hour time difference with Montreal and nine with Vancouver from Europe. That value for money, Rogers network included, earns it first place, even though Ubigi and Esimzon do better on price per GB alone.

    Pros

    • Rogers network, the country's largest, 5G on the big plans
    • eSIM simple to install, easy-to-use app
    • Human support, 24/7, tethering included

    Cons

    • Price per GB in the middle, not the lowest
    • No unlimited plan
  2. Ubigi

    2. Ubigi

    7.6/10
€1.18/GBLocal networksData plans, one-off or monthly, and unlimited

The lowest price per GB, cheapest 30-day unlimited

Ubigi belongs to Transatel, a subsidiary of the NTT group, a mark of seriousness. In Canada, it is the best price per GB in the comparison: €1.18/GB on the 50 GB plan, and its 30-day unlimited is the cheapest of the six, well ahead of Airalo and Esimzon. Its prices are shown in euros, top-ups happen in the app and it offers one-off plans, monthly plans and an unlimited plan from 8 to 30 days.

For this country, Ubigi does not say which carrier it uses before purchase. Support is by ticket, in English and French.

    Pros

    • The lowest price per GB in the comparison on 50 GB
    • Cheapest 30-day unlimited, prices in euros, top-up in the app

    Cons

    • Canadian carrier not named before purchase
    • Support by ticket only
  3. Esimzon

    3. Esimzon

    7.4/10
€1.29/GBBell, Telus, SaskTel or Freedom depending on the planData plans 1 to 15 GB, and unlimited

Cheapest on 10 GB and on small plans

Esimzon is a prepaid reseller that plays the price card on everyday volumes: its lowest rate per GB comes to €1.29/GB on the 15 GB plan, and its 10 GB 30-day plan is the cheapest in the comparison at that volume, as are its 1, 3 and 5 GB plans. Every plan names its carrier: Bell or Telus, which share the same physical network and cover the country as well as Rogers, SaskTel or Freedom, more limited, on some offers. Check the plan sheet before buying.

The limits are elsewhere. The catalogue stops at 15 GB, unlimited is expensive, prices are shown in dollars on its site (the euro follows the daily rate), support is by email or chat, in English, and activation goes through a QR code, without an app as polished as the leaders'.

    Pros

    • The cheapest 10 GB and small plans in the comparison
    • Carrier named on every plan, Bell or Telus on most

    Cons

    • No plan above 15 GB, expensive unlimited
    • Prices in dollars, support in English, no proper usage-tracking app
  4. Airalo

    4. Airalo

    7.2/10
€1.52/GBBellData plans, daily unlimited, regional and global

    Complete app, North America plan

Airalo, the market pioneer, names the carrier of each plan: in Canada, it is Bell, the country's second network, very good national coverage and solid in Quebec. Its best price per GB drops to €1.52/GB on the 50 GB plan, slightly above voilà eSIM, and its 10 GB 7-day plan is fair for a week.

Its strength remains the app, the most complete of the six, with top-ups and usage tracking, an unlimited offer billed per day, and a handy North America plan if you chain Canada, the United States and Mexico without changing eSIM. Support, in English, can be slow.

    Pros

    • Bell network named, good coverage in Quebec
    • Complete app, built-in top-up, daily unlimited
    • North America plan for a multi-country trip

    Cons

    • Price per GB in the upper half of the comparison
    • Support in English, sometimes slow
  5. Yesim

    5. Yesim

    6.8/10
€1.65/GBLocal networksDaily, data and unlimited plans

    Reusable eSIM, daily plans

Yesim, a Swiss provider, offers the widest range: daily plans, classic data plans up to 20 GB and an unlimited offer from 1 to 30 days. The best price per GB drops to €1.65/GB on the 20 GB plan, in the upper half of the comparison.

The eSIM can be reused from one trip to the next, which saves a new install every time you leave. On the other hand, Yesim does not name the Canadian carrier it uses before purchase, and support is limited to chat.

    Pros

    • Reusable eSIM across several trips
    • Daily plans and unlimited available

    Cons

    • Canadian carrier not named before purchase
    • Price per GB in the upper half, support by chat
  6. Saily

    6. Saily

    6.3/10
€1.95/GBLocal networksData plans, 1 to 20 GB, and unlimited

    By Nord Security, built-in security

Saily is the eSIM from Nord Security, the maker of NordVPN. The app is simple, with an ad and tracker blocker and built-in web protection, and chat answers 24/7 in English.

In Canada, the best price per GB comes to €1.95/GB on the 20 GB plan: the highest rate in the comparison, with no carrier named before purchase. For those who want the security layer above all.

    Pros

    • Built-in ad and tracker blocker
    • 24/7 chat, unlimited available

    Cons

    • The highest price per GB in the comparison
    • Carrier not named before purchase

eSIM or local SIM card in Canada?

First thing to check: your home plan. Some European plans already include Canada with tens of GB a month, Free Mobile's 5G plan for instance (the list is in our article on the countries included at Free Mobile), and other carriers sell North America add-ons. If that is your case, an eSIM is only a top-up. Otherwise, roaming outside your plan is billed per MB and quickly becomes prohibitive.

A prepaid local SIM from Rogers, Bell or Telus is sold in shops, but Canada has some of the most expensive mobile plans in the world: expect tens of dollars for a few GB, sometimes activation fees, and you lose your usual SIM if your phone has a single slot. Our rule: eSIM for a stay under a month, local SIM for a working holiday, an expatriation or a semester abroad, where you will need a Canadian number. And if you continue to New York or Florida, the same comparison exists for the best eSIM for the USA.

What to check on your phone before buying

Two conditions: an eSIM-compatible phone that is carrier-unlocked. iPhones since the XR and the Pixel, Galaxy S and other recent models are; the full list is on our eSIM-compatible phones page. A phone bought subsidised from a carrier may still be locked: ask for the unlock before you leave. Canada's 3G networks have been switched off since 2025, an old phone without 4G will get nothing.

Once the eSIM is installed, keep your home SIM active for calls and texts, turn off its data roaming, and turn on the Canada eSIM's when you arrive. Outside the cities, download your maps offline: even Rogers or Bell do not cover every pass in the Rockies or the whole Trans-Canada Highway. Every plan in the Canada comparator is sold by providers that show compatibility before purchase.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best eSIM for Canada?
On our criteria, voilà eSIM: the Rogers network, the country's largest, 5G on the big plans, an eSIM that is simple to install and human support 24/7. Ubigi is the smart buy if you use a lot of data, with the lowest price per GB in the comparison and the cheapest 30-day unlimited.
How much does an eSIM for Canada cost?
Between €1.20 and €1.50 per GB at the cheapest providers on a large 30-day plan, between €1.30 and €2.75 per GB on a 10 GB plan, and up to €2 per GB at the most expensive provider in the comparison. Unlimited is priced per day, around €2.50 a day at best over 30 days.
Which network has the best signal in Canada?
Rogers, Bell and Telus share the country and each cover more than 99% of the population. Bell and Telus share the same physical network. Rogers is the largest carrier and the strongest in Ontario and the West, Bell is very present in Quebec. Freedom Mobile, smaller, is limited to the big cities of Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.
Does my home plan already cover Canada?
Sometimes. Some European plans include tens of GB a month in Canada, Free Mobile's 5G plan for instance, and other carriers offer paid North America add-ons. Check your contract before buying an eSIM: it then only serves to top up or to avoid going over.
Should I activate the eSIM before leaving for Canada?
Install it before you leave, on Wi-Fi, when you have time to scan the QR code or go through the app. The line activates by itself when you arrive and turn on data roaming. Allow two to five minutes, the time to clear customs.
