Best eSIM for Dubai in 2026: 6 providers compared

A 24-hour layover, a week of holidays or a business trip: in Dubai you spend your time in the metro, in taxis and on booking apps, and mall Wi-Fi stops where the desert starts. A Dubai eSIM installs before you leave, activates when you land and spares you the airport counter, where a local SIM asks for your passport. You keep your home SIM for calls and texts.

One detail changes everything in the UAE: on local networks, WhatsApp calls, FaceTime and Messenger are blocked, while messages go through. So we ran 6 providers through the same grid: price per GB, network used on the ground (du or Etisalat), coverage in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the desert, support, how simple the app and the activation are, and plan flexibility. The ranking first, then each offer in detail.

voilà eSIM: the du network and zero blocked apps

7.7/10

The du network, its 5G, a two-minute install from an app that is easy to use and human support reachable 24/7, for €2.40/GB. Yesim, Airalo, Saily and Ubigi do better on price per GB alone.

How we ranked these eSIMs

Each eSIM is scored on six criteria, weighted for the UAE. Price per GB and network coverage weigh the most. The UAE is one of the best-covered mobile markets in the world, with speeds at the top of Ookla's Speedtest Global Index: the real difference is what the operator lets through. Under its VoIP policy, the TDRA requires a licence for any voice or video calling app, which blocks WhatsApp, FaceTime and Messenger on Emirati networks. The scores are our editorial opinion, not an average of customer reviews.

  • Price per GB25 %

Cost per gigabyte on each provider's cheapest plan, excluding one-off promotions.

  • Network coverage25 %

Signal in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, in the metro, on the Hatta road and on a desert trip.

  • Reliability15 %

Connection stability, the partner operator's track record and the provider's reputation.

  • Support15 %

Channels available, hours, human or automated answers.

  • Activation and app10 %

How simple the install is, how clear the app is, data usage tracking.

  • Plan flexibility10 %

Choice of volumes and durations, unlimited, top-ups, tethering.

On these criteria, voilà eSIM comes out on top thanks to the du network, its clear app, its human support around the clock and the "zero blocked apps" line on its UAE page, despite a price per GB in the upper half of the comparison (€2.40/GB). Yesim takes second place with the lowest price per GB, Airalo third with the cheapest 7-day unlimited and the most complete app.

Scores are the opinion of the eSIMrat editorial team, based on the criteria above, not customer reviews. eSIMrat earns a commission on links to its partners, which does not affect the ranking.

The eSIM ranking for Dubai and the UAE

The 6 eSIMs compared, from the best-scored to the lowest. The price per GB shown is that of each provider's cheapest plan per gigabyte, often a large 30-day plan: a small one-week plan costs more per GB. For Esimzon it is a 10 GB plan, its largest, for Airalo a 20 GB over 15 days.

Every Dubai eSIM in detail

  1. voilà eSIM

    1. voilà eSIM

    7.7/10
    €2.40/GBduData plans, 1 to 50 GB, 7 to 180 days

du network, 5G, zero blocked apps

voilà eSIM runs on du, the second Emirati operator and the one with the country's best network availability, with 5G announced depending on the area. On its UAE page the brand states "zero blocked apps": a travel eSIM's traffic exits through the home operator, and that is exactly what matters in Dubai, where WhatsApp and FaceTime calls do not go through on a local line.

The price drops to €2.40/GB on the 20 GB plan, in the upper half of the comparison: Yesim, Airalo, Saily and Ubigi do better per GB, only Esimzon does worse. Plans run from 1 to 50 GB, over 7 to 180 days, with no commitment, and tethering is included. The ESIMRAT code gives 5% off, on the promo codes page, which brings the value for money closer to the middle of the table.

It is also the easiest to get started with: the eSIM installs in two minutes from an app that is easy to use, with top-ups and usage tracking in the same place, and human support answers 24/7, the kind of detail that counts when you land in Dubai at 3am and the line will not connect.

    Pros

    • du network, the best availability in the country, 5G announced
    • "Zero blocked apps" stated on the UAE page, tethering included
    • eSIM simple to install, app easy to use, human support 24/7

    Cons

    • Price per GB in the upper half of the comparison
    • No unlimited plan
  2. Yesim

    2. Yesim

    7.4/10
€1.32/GBLocal networksData plans up to 30 GB, unlimited from 1 to 30 days

The lowest price per GB in the comparison

Yesim, a Swiss provider, has the widest range of the six: data plans from 1 to 30 GB, unlimited from 1 to 30 days and even a one-day mini plan to get you out of trouble. Its best price per GB falls to €1.32/GB on the 30 GB plan, the lowest in the comparison, about 45% below the last provider in the ranking.

The eSIM can be reused from one trip to the next, which saves a fresh install every time. On the other hand, Yesim does not name the Emirati operator before purchase, its 30-day unlimited is the most expensive of the four on offer, and support is chat only.

    Pros

    • The lowest price per GB in the comparison, on 30 GB
    • Daily unlimited, mini plans, reusable eSIM

    Cons

    • Emirati operator not named before purchase
    • The most expensive 30-day unlimited here, chat-only support
  3. Airalo

    3. Airalo

    7.2/10
€1.50/GBLocal networksData, unlimited, regional and global plans

The cheapest 7-day unlimited, complete app

Airalo, the market pioneer, has the most complete app of the six, with top-ups and usage tracking, and a Middle East and North Africa regional plan that covers the UAE along with Jordan or Egypt, handy for a multi-stop trip. Its price per GB drops to €1.50/GB on a 20 GB over 15 days, the second best value in the comparison.

On unlimited it is the cheapest over 7 days, at €24.50, and stays one cent behind Saily over 30 days. Two caveats: it does not name the Emirati operator on this destination, and its support, in English, can be slow.

    Pros

    • The second best price per GB, cheapest 7-day unlimited
    • Complete app, built-in top-ups, Middle East regional plan

    Cons

    • Emirati operator not named before purchase
    • Support in English, sometimes slow
  4. Saily

    4. Saily

    7.0/10
€1.52/GBLocal networksData plans 1 to 20 GB, unlimited from 5 to 30 days

The cheapest 30-day unlimited, built-in security

Saily is the eSIM from Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN. The app is simple, with an ad and tracker blocker and built-in web protection, and chat answers 24/7 in English. In the UAE its price per GB is €1.52/GB on the 20 GB plan, mid-table.

Its real argument here is unlimited: €63.99 for 30 days, the cheapest of the four, and a full range from 5 to 30 days for travellers who would rather not count gigabytes. It does not name the Emirati operator before purchase and its data catalogue stops at 20 GB.

    Pros

    • The cheapest 30-day unlimited in the comparison
    • Built-in ad and tracker blocker, 24/7 chat

    Cons

    • Emirati operator not named before purchase
    • Data catalogue capped at 20 GB
  5. Ubigi

    5. Ubigi

    6.8/10
€1.90/GBLocal networksData plans, 1 to 25 GB, and unlimited for 1 or 7 days

One unlimited day for a layover, prices in euros

Ubigi belongs to Transatel, a subsidiary of the NTT group, which says something about its reliability. In the UAE, its best price per GB is €1.90/GB on a 10 GB over 7 days, in the upper half of the comparison. Prices are shown in euros, top-ups happen in the app and support answers by ticket, in English and French.

Its trick here: a one-day unlimited at €12, the only one in the comparison, made for a Dubai layover between two flights. Over a week, though, its €36 unlimited is the most expensive of the four, and it does not name the Emirati operator before purchase.

    Pros

    • One-day unlimited at €12, unique in this comparison
    • Prices in euros, top-ups in the app, ticket support in French

    Cons

    • Emirati operator not named before purchase
    • The most expensive 7-day unlimited in the comparison
  6. Esimzon

    6. Esimzon

    6.5/10
    €2.46/GBEtisalat UAEData plans 1 to 10 GB, 30 days

The only one naming Etisalat on every plan

Esimzon is a prepaid reseller that names its operator on every plan, which four of the six competitors do not: here Etisalat, the country's first network, on 4G, with the 5 GB plan running on du. If you want to know which network you land on before you pay, it is the only one alongside voilà eSIM.

The rest is less flattering: at €2.46/GB, it is the highest price per GB of the six, the catalogue stops at 10 GB and 30 days, with no unlimited and no 5G, prices are shown in dollars on its site (the euro follows the day's rate) and support runs by email or chat, in English.

    Pros

    • Etisalat named on every plan, the country's first network
    • Short 1 and 3 GB plans for a light stay

    Cons

    • The highest price per GB in the comparison
    • Catalogue capped at 10 GB, no unlimited, no 5G, support in English

eSIM or local SIM card in Dubai?

First thing to check: your home plan. In France, Free Mobile includes the UAE in its 5G+ plan, within the 35 GB monthly allowance (the full list is in our article on the countries included with Free Mobile), and most European carriers sell weekly world add-ons. If that is your case, an eSIM is only a backup. Otherwise, out-of-plan roaming is billed per MB and climbs fast.

As for a local SIM, du and e& (formerly Etisalat) sell tourist offers at Dubai airport counters, and du even has a Tourist eSIM, but passport registration is the rule and you lose your home line if your phone has a single slot. Above all, on a local number, WhatsApp, FaceTime and Messenger calls are blocked: only apps licensed by the TDRA, such as Botim, go through. A travel eSIM works in roaming, its traffic exits through the home operator, and voilà eSIM states "zero blocked apps" on its UAE page; for the other providers, check the plan details before buying. Our rule: eSIM for a stay under a month, local SIM for a long-term move, where you will need an Emirati number.

What to check on your phone before buying

Two conditions: an eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked phone. iPhones from the XR on, plus Pixels, Galaxy S and other recent models qualify; the full list is on our eSIM-compatible phones page. A phone bought on a carrier subsidy may still be locked: ask for the unlock before you leave.

Once the eSIM is installed, keep your home SIM active for calls and texts, turn off its data roaming, and switch on the UAE eSIM's roaming when you land. The network covers all of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, metro and tunnels included, but a desert trip or the road to Hatta has gaps: download your maps offline. Every plan in the UAE comparator is sold by a provider that shows compatibility before purchase. And if North Africa is next, the same comparison exists for the best eSIM for Egypt.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best eSIM for Dubai?
On our criteria, voilà eSIM: the du network, 5G, an eSIM that is simple to install, human support 24/7 and "zero blocked apps" stated on its UAE page. Yesim is the value pick for a large volume, with the lowest price per GB in the comparison, Airalo for a week of unlimited, and Ubigi for a layover, with its one-day unlimited at €12.
How much does an eSIM for Dubai cost?
Between €1.30 and €2.45 per GB depending on the provider, on large 30-day plans. A small one-week plan costs more per gigabyte, around €2 to €3.50. Unlimited is priced per day: about €2.15 a day over a month, €3.50 a day over a week, and €12 for a single day.
Do WhatsApp calls work in Dubai with an eSIM?
On a local Emirati SIM, WhatsApp, FaceTime and Messenger calls are blocked while messages and voice notes go through: the TDRA requires a licence for any calling app, and only a few approved apps such as Botim are exempt. A travel eSIM works in roaming and its traffic exits through the home operator, which usually lets calls through: voilà eSIM states "zero blocked apps" on its UAE page, for the other providers check the plan details before buying.
Which SIM card should you choose for Dubai?
For a stay under a month, a travel eSIM: no passport registration, no airport counter, you keep your home line and you pay between €1.30 and €2.45 per GB. A local du or e& SIM only makes sense if you need an Emirati number to receive verification texts, for a rental or a local bank account for instance.
What is the downside of an eSIM?
Three limits. You need a compatible, carrier-unlocked phone, which rules out pre-2018 models and some subsidised devices. Travel eSIMs are data only: no local number, calls go through WhatsApp, Signal or Viber. And an eSIM is tied to a device: if you change phones mid-trip you have to reinstall it, when the provider allows it.
Should you activate the eSIM before leaving for Dubai?
Install it before you leave, on Wi-Fi, when you have time to scan the QR code or go through the app. The line activates on its own when you land and turn on data roaming, with no passport and no registration, unlike a local SIM. Count two to five minutes, the time it takes to clear customs.
