Best eSIM for Mexico in 2026: 6 providers compared

Between Cancún, Mexico City, Oaxaca and Baja California, Mexico is a country you cross by car, by night bus and by colectivo, with Google Maps and Uber open the whole time. A Mexico eSIM installs before you leave, activates when you land and spares you the queue at the Telcel counter at the airport, without touching your home SIM, which you keep for calls.

We ran 6 providers through the same grid: price per GB, network used on the ground (Telcel, AT&T or Movistar), coverage outside the cities, in the Yucatán, in the Sierra and on the Baja California road, support, how simple the app and the activation are, and plan flexibility. The ranking first, then each offer in detail.

Best eSIM for Mexico in 2026: 6 providers compared
The eSIMrat verdict#1 of 6
voilà eSIM

voilà eSIM: Telcel and AT&T together, with human support

7.6/10

The country's two largest networks on the same eSIM, 5G, a two-minute install and human support available 24/7, for €2.09/GB. Airalo, Yesim, Saily and Esimzon do better on price per GB alone.

Price per GB : €2.09/GBNetwork : Telcel and AT&T

How we ranked these eSIMs

Each eSIM is scored on six criteria, weighted for Mexico. Price per GB and network coverage weigh the most: the country is four times the size of France, and as soon as you leave the cities and the tourist areas, only the network used makes the difference. According to the Opensignal report of October 2025, Telcel wins reliability, coverage and download speed, AT&T wins availability. Scores are the editorial team's opinion, not an average of customer reviews.

  • Price per GB25 %

Cost per gigabyte on each provider's cheapest plan, excluding one-off promotions.

  • Network coverage25 %

Getting signal in Mexico City, Cancún, Guadalajara and Oaxaca, on the road to Tulum, in Chiapas and in Baja California.

  • Reliability15 %

Connection stability, seriousness of the partner carrier and the provider's reputation.

  • Support15 %

Available channels, opening hours, human or automated answers.

  • Activation and app10 %

How simple the install is, how clear the app is, data usage tracking.

  • Plan flexibility10 %

Choice of volumes and durations, unlimited, top-ups, tethering.

On these criteria, voilà eSIM comes out on top thanks to its two networks, Telcel and AT&T, its clear app and its 24/7 human support, despite a price per GB in the upper half of the comparison (€2.09/GB). Airalo takes second place with the lowest price per GB and the cheapest unlimited, Esimzon third with AT&T named on every plan and the cheapest small plans.

Scores are the opinion of the eSIMrat editorial team, based on the criteria above, not customer reviews. eSIMrat earns a commission on links to its partners, which does not affect the ranking.

The ranking of eSIMs for Mexico

The 6 eSIMs compared, from the highest to the lowest score. The price per GB shown is the cheapest per gigabyte at each provider, often a large 30-day plan: a small one-week plan costs more per GB. At Esimzon, it is a 10 GB plan, at Ubigi a 10 GB plan over 7 days.

Each Mexico eSIM in detail

  1. voilà eSIM

    1. voilà eSIM

    7.6/10
    €2.09/GBTelcel and AT&TData plans, 1 to 50 GB

Two networks, 5G, 24/7 human support

voilà eSIM is the only eSIM in the comparison to combine Telcel and AT&T, the only two carriers that own a nationwide network in Mexico. Telcel, with more than half of the market, is the network that reaches furthest into the countryside and along the roads, AT&T takes over in the big cities. 5G is advertised depending on the network, 4G everywhere else.

The rate drops to €2.09/GB on the 50 GB plan, in the upper half of the comparison: Airalo, Yesim, Saily and Esimzon do better per GB, only Ubigi does worse. Plans run from 1 to 50 GB over 7, 15 or 30 days, with no commitment, and tethering is included. The code ESIMRAT gives 5% off, see the promo codes page.

It is the easiest offer to get started with: the eSIM installs in two minutes from an app that is easy to use, and human support answers 24/7, which matters with a seven hour time difference between Mexico City and Europe. That value for money, two networks included, earns it first place, even though four providers do better on price per GB alone.

    Pros

    • Telcel and AT&T on the same eSIM, 5G advertised
    • eSIM simple to install, easy-to-use app
    • Human support, 24/7, tethering included

    Cons

    • Price per GB in the upper half of the comparison
    • No unlimited plan
  2. Airalo

    2. Airalo

    7.4/10
€0.82/GBMovistarData plans, data with calls and texts, unlimited, regional

The lowest price per GB, cheapest 30-day unlimited

Airalo, the market pioneer, crushes the comparison on price: €0.82/GB on the 50 GB plan, more than twice as cheap per GB as the runner-up, and its 10 GB 30-day plan is also the cheapest of the six. Its 30-day unlimited is the cheapest in the comparison, and it is the only provider here to sell plans with Mexican calls and texts, handy to book a restaurant or call a driver.

The advertised network is Movistar, which no longer has its own network in Mexico and relies on AT&T's and on the Altán wholesale network: good coverage of the cities and tourist areas, less solid than Telcel in the countryside. The app is the most complete of the six, with top-ups and usage tracking, and a North America plan covers Mexico, the United States and Canada. Support, in English, can be slow.

    Pros

    • The lowest price per GB in the comparison, by far
    • Cheapest 30-day unlimited, plans with calls and texts
    • Complete app, North America plan

    Cons

    • Movistar, with no network of its own, less solid than Telcel outside the cities
    • Support in English, sometimes slow
  3. Esimzon

    3. Esimzon

    7.0/10
    €2.11/GBAT&T MexicoData plans 1 to 15 GB, 30 days

AT&T named on every plan, cheapest small plans

Esimzon is a prepaid reseller that names its carrier on every plan: in Mexico, it is AT&T, the second nationwide network, on 4G. Its lowest rate per GB comes to €2.11/GB on the 10 GB plan, in the middle of the comparison, and its 1 and 3 GB 30-day plans are the cheapest of the six at those volumes.

The limits are elsewhere. The catalogue stops at 15 GB, with no unlimited and no 5G, every plan lasts 30 days, prices are shown in dollars on its site (the euro follows the daily rate), support is by email or chat, in English, and activation goes through a QR code, without an app as polished as the leaders'.

    Pros

    • AT&T named on every plan, 4G
    • The cheapest 1 and 3 GB plans in the comparison

    Cons

    • No plan above 15 GB, no unlimited, no 5G
    • Prices in dollars, support in English, no proper usage-tracking app
  4. Yesim

    4. Yesim

    6.9/10
€1.80/GBLocal networksDaily, data and unlimited plans

Second-lowest price per GB, reusable eSIM

Yesim, a Swiss provider, offers the widest range: daily plans, classic data plans up to 20 GB and an unlimited offer from 1 to 30 days. The best price per GB drops to €1.80/GB on the 20 GB plan, second in the comparison behind Airalo.

The eSIM can be reused from one trip to the next, which saves a new install every time you leave. On the other hand, Yesim does not name the Mexican carrier it uses before purchase, its unlimited is the most expensive of the three in the comparison, and support is limited to chat.

    Pros

    • Second-lowest price per GB in the comparison
    • Reusable eSIM, daily plans and unlimited available

    Cons

    • Mexican carrier not named before purchase
    • Most expensive unlimited in the comparison, support by chat
  5. Saily

    5. Saily

    6.5/10
€2.05/GBLocal networksData plans, 1 to 20 GB, and unlimited

    By Nord Security, built-in security

Saily is the eSIM from Nord Security, the maker of NordVPN. The app is simple, with an ad and tracker blocker and built-in web protection, and chat answers 24/7 in English. An asset on hotel and café public Wi-Fi.

In Mexico, the best price per GB comes to €2.05/GB on the 20 GB plan, in the middle of the comparison, and its 30-day unlimited is the second cheapest. Saily does not name the carrier it uses before purchase.

    Pros

    • Built-in ad and tracker blocker
    • 24/7 chat, second-cheapest 30-day unlimited

    Cons

    • Price per GB in the middle, nothing more
    • Carrier not named before purchase
  6. Ubigi

    6. Ubigi

    6.2/10
€2.40/GBLocal networksData plans, 1 to 10 GB, and 7-day unlimited

    Prices in euros, NTT group

Ubigi belongs to Transatel, a subsidiary of the NTT group, a mark of seriousness, and shows its prices in euros with top-ups in the app. But in Mexico, its catalogue is the shortest in the comparison: 1, 3 and 10 GB, and a 7-day unlimited only.

Its best price per GB comes to €2.40/GB on the 10 GB 7-day plan, the highest of the six, with no carrier named before purchase. Support is by ticket, in English and French. For a short stay where price matters little.

    Pros

    • Prices in euros, top-up in the app
    • Support by ticket in French

    Cons

    • The highest price per GB in the comparison
    • Catalogue capped at 10 GB, unlimited over 7 days only

eSIM or local SIM card in Mexico?

First thing to check: your home plan. Some European plans already include Mexico with tens of GB a month, Free Mobile's 5G plan for instance (the list is in our article on the countries included at Free Mobile), and other carriers sell Americas add-ons. If that is your case, an eSIM is only a top-up. Otherwise, roaming outside your plan is billed per MB and quickly becomes prohibitive.

A prepaid local SIM from Telcel (Amigo) is sold in Oxxo stores and Telcel shops for a few euros, with cheap data plans, but you lose your usual SIM if your phone has a single slot, and since 2026 Mexico requires the registration of every local mobile line, passport in hand for a foreigner, according to Mexperience. A travel eSIM works in roaming mode and is not concerned. Our rule: eSIM for a stay under a month, local SIM for a long stay or an expatriation, where you will need a Mexican number. And if you continue to the United States, the same comparison exists for the best eSIM for the USA.

What to check on your phone before buying

Two conditions: an eSIM-compatible phone that is carrier-unlocked. iPhones since the XR and the Pixel, Galaxy S and other recent models are; the full list is on our eSIM-compatible phones page. A phone bought subsidised from a carrier may still be locked: ask for the unlock before you leave.

Once the eSIM is installed, keep your home SIM active for calls and texts, turn off its data roaming, and turn on the Mexico eSIM's when you arrive. Outside the cities, download your maps offline: even Telcel does not cover the whole Sierra Madre or the dirt roads of Chiapas. Every plan in the Mexico comparator is sold by providers that show compatibility before purchase.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best eSIM for Mexico?
On our criteria, voilà eSIM: Telcel and AT&T on the same eSIM, 5G, an eSIM that is simple to install and human support 24/7. Airalo is the smart buy if you use a lot of data, with the lowest price per GB in the comparison by far and the cheapest 30-day unlimited.
How much does an eSIM for Mexico cost?
Under €1 per GB at the cheapest provider on a large 30-day plan, between €1.65 and €2.60 per GB on a 10 GB plan, and up to €2.40 per GB at the most expensive provider in the comparison. Unlimited is priced per day, around €1.85 a day at best over 30 days.
Which network has the best signal in Mexico?
Telcel, which holds more than half of the market and wins reliability, coverage and download speed in the Opensignal report of October 2025. AT&T, the only other nationwide network, is very good in the cities and wins availability. Movistar no longer has its own network and uses AT&T's and the Altán wholesale network.
Does my home plan already cover Mexico?
Sometimes. Some European plans include tens of GB a month in Mexico, Free Mobile's 5G plan for instance, and other carriers offer paid Americas add-ons. Check your contract before buying an eSIM: it then only serves to top up or to avoid going over.
Do I need to register a travel eSIM in Mexico?
No. The mandatory registration of mobile lines that came into force in 2026 targets Mexican lines, SIMs and eSIMs sold locally. A travel eSIM bought from a foreign provider works in roaming mode and is not concerned. Install it before you leave, on Wi-Fi, and turn on data roaming when you arrive.
