Best eSIM for Saudi Arabia in 2026: 6 providers compared

An Umrah in Mecca and Medina, a work trip to Riyadh, a weekend in Jeddah or the road to the Nabataean tombs of AlUla: in Saudi Arabia you need data for the Nusuk app that issues pilgrimage permits, ride-hailing, payments, the map of the Grand Mosque and calls home. A Saudi Arabia eSIM installs before you leave, activates as you land and spares you the operator shop, where a local SIM is sold against your passport with a fingerprint scan. You keep your home SIM for calls and texts.

The Saudi trap is your home plan: the kingdom sits outside every European zone, so data goes out of plan the moment you land. And there is one question everyone asks before leaving: do WhatsApp calls work? We ran 6 providers through the same grid: price per GB, network used on the ground (STC, Mobily or Zain), coverage in Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, Medina and on the road, support, how simple the app and the activation are, and plan flexibility. The ranking first, then each offer in detail.

Best eSIM for Saudi Arabia in 2026: 6 providers compared
The eSIMrat verdict#1 of 6
voilà eSIM

voilà eSIM: the STC network on 5G, and human support 24/7

7.8/10

The STC network, Saudi Arabia's widest, stated with 5G, at €1.80/GB on the 20 GB plan, "zero blocked apps" in black and white, a two-minute install from an app that is easy to use and human support reachable 24/7. It is not the lowest price per GB, but it is the strongest value for money on our criteria.

How we ranked these eSIMs

Each eSIM is scored on six criteria, weighted for Saudi Arabia. Price per GB and network coverage weigh the most. The kingdom is one of the fastest mobile markets in the world: ninth in Ookla's Speedtest Global Index in July 2026, with a median download above 300 Mbps. Three operators share the ground: STC, the widest, Mobily and Zain, all three on 5G in the big cities. Cities, holy sites and motorways are very well covered, the desert between Riyadh and AlUla much less so, as the nPerf coverage map shows. The real difference is therefore price, the stated network, and what the provider lets through. The scores are our editorial opinion, not an average of customer reviews.

  • Price per GB25 %

Cost per gigabyte on each provider's cheapest plan, excluding one-off promotions.

  • Network coverage25 %

Signal in Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, Medina and Dammam, in the crowded holy sites and on the motorways.

  • Reliability15 %

Connection stability, the partner operator's track record and the provider's reputation.

  • Support15 %

Channels available, hours, human or automated answers.

  • Activation and app10 %

How simple the install is, how clear the app is, data usage tracking.

  • Plan flexibility10 %

Choice of volumes and durations, unlimited, top-ups, tethering.

On these criteria, voilà eSIM comes out on top thanks to the STC network stated on 5G, its app and its human support around the clock, despite a price per GB of €1.80/GB that puts it fourth of six: Esimzon, Yesim and Airalo do better on price per GB alone, and every card says so. Esimzon takes second place with the lowest price per GB and the Mobily network named. Yesim is third, with the largest plan in the comparison and unlimited sold day by day.

Scores are the opinion of the eSIMrat editorial team, based on the criteria above, not customer reviews. eSIMrat earns a commission on links to its partners, which does not affect the ranking.

The eSIM ranking for Saudi Arabia

The 6 eSIMs compared, from the best-scored to the lowest. The price per GB shown is that of each provider's cheapest plan per gigabyte, a 30-day 10 GB at Esimzon, a 20 GB at voilà eSIM and Saily, a 30 GB at Yesim, a 45-day 25 GB at Airalo: a small one-week plan costs two to three times more per GB. For Ubigi it comes from a 10 GB valid 7 days.

Every Saudi Arabia eSIM in detail

  1. voilà eSIM

    1. voilà eSIM

    7.8/10
    €1.80/GBSTCData plans, 1 to 50 GB, 7 to 30 days

STC network on 5G, zero blocked apps, human support 24/7

voilà eSIM runs on STC, the incumbent and the kingdom's widest network, the one that holds up best in the crowded holy sites and on the motorways between Jeddah, Mecca and Medina, with 5G stated depending on the area. On its Saudi Arabia page the brand states "zero blocked apps": a travel eSIM's traffic exits through the home operator, and that is what matters for WhatsApp calls, long restricted on Saudi lines. Tethering is unlimited.

On price, let us be clear: €1.80/GB on the 30-day 20 GB plan at €36 is the fourth price per GB of six, behind Esimzon, Yesim and Airalo. The range runs from 1 GB over 7 days at €3 to 50 GB over 30 days at €110.50, and that last one costs more per GB than the 20 GB: for a long stay, two 20 GB plans beat one 50 GB. The ESIMRAT code gives 5% off, on the promo codes page, which improves the value for money without changing the per-GB order.

What makes the difference is the rest: the eSIM installs in two minutes from an app that is easy to use, with top-ups and usage tracking in the same place, the brand states a refund if something goes wrong, and human support answers 24/7. During an Umrah, when everything hinges on a Nusuk slot at dawn, that is what you want within reach.

    Pros

    • STC network stated, the kingdom's widest, 5G depending on the area, unlimited tethering
    • "Zero blocked apps" stated, plans up to 50 GB, 1 GB at €3 for a short stay
    • eSIM simple to install, app easy to use, human support 24/7

    Cons

    • Fourth price per GB of six, behind Esimzon, Yesim and Airalo
    • No unlimited plan, the 50 GB costs more per GB than the 20 GB
  2. Esimzon

    2. Esimzon

    7.6/10
    €1.41/GBMobilyData plans 1 to 15 GB, 30 days

The lowest price per GB, Mobily network named on 5G

Esimzon has the lowest price per GB in the comparison: €1.41/GB on its 30-day 10 GB plan, at €13.76, and its 15 GB at €20.64 keeps the same per-GB rate. With voilà eSIM, it is also the only provider here to name its network: Mobily, the second Saudi operator, whose corporate name is Etihad Etisalat, on 4G and 5G.

All its plans run 30 days, from the 1 GB at €2.24 to the 15 GB, which makes it the best deal for a two- to four-week pilgrimage on a budget. The limits: no unlimited, no large volume above 15 GB, prices shown in dollars on its site (the euro follows the day's rate) and support by email or chat, in English.

    Pros

    • The lowest price per GB in the comparison, on 10 and 15 GB
    • Mobily network named, 4G and 5G, all plans valid 30 days

    Cons

    • No unlimited, catalogue capped at 15 GB
    • Prices shown in dollars, support in English
  3. Yesim

    3. Yesim

    7.3/10
€1.54/GBLocal networksData plans 1 to 30 GB, unlimited from 1 to 30 days

The largest data plan, unlimited sold day by day

Yesim has the largest data plan in the comparison, 30 GB over 30 days at €46.20, which gives it the second price per GB, €1.54/GB. Its 20 GB at €33 is also the cheapest of the 20 GB plans, three euros below voilà eSIM. For a heavy user filming their days in Medina, it is the right candidate.

Its second strength is unlimited sold day by day: €5 for 24 hours, €35 for a week, €89 for a month. You pay exactly the length of your stay. Over a month and over a week, Airalo is still cheaper though. The limits: the provider does not state which Saudi operator it uses before purchase, and support is limited to chat. The eSIM can be reused from one trip to the next.

    Pros

    • 30 GB over 30 days, the largest plan in the comparison, second price per GB
    • Unlimited sold day by day, from €5 for 24 hours to €89 a month, reusable eSIM

    Cons

    • Saudi operator not stated before purchase
    • Unlimited pricier than Airalo over a week and over a month, chat-only support
  4. Airalo

    4. Airalo

    7.1/10
€1.78/GBLocal networksData plans 1 to 25 GB, unlimited from 3 to 30 days

The cheapest unlimited at every duration, a 45-day plan

Airalo, the market pioneer, has the most complete app of the six, with top-ups and usage tracking, and the only 45-day plan in the comparison, 25 GB at €43.50, which gives it the third price per GB, €1.78/GB. Handy for an Umrah followed by a stay in Riyadh, without buying a new plan halfway through.

On unlimited it is the cheapest in the comparison at every duration: €11.50 for 3 days, €24 for a week, €86.50 for a month, ahead of Yesim and Saily every time. It does not state the Saudi operator on this destination, and its support, in English, can be slow.

    Pros

    • Cheapest unlimited at every duration, from €11.50 for 3 days to €86.50 a month
    • The only 45-day plan, complete app with built-in top-ups

    Cons

    • Saudi operator not stated before purchase
    • Support in English, sometimes slow
  5. Saily

    5. Saily

    6.7/10
€1.92/GBLocal networksData plans 1 to 20 GB, unlimited from 5 to 30 days

Ad and tracker blocker, chat 24/7

Saily is the eSIM from Nord Security, the maker of NordVPN. The app is simple, with an ad and tracker blocker and built-in web protection, and chat answers 24/7 in English. On a Mecca hotel wifi saturated by thousands of pilgrims, that is a real plus.

The price is decent without being the best: €1.92/GB on the 20 GB plan, fifth price per GB of six, just behind voilà eSIM. Its unlimited, from €16.99 for 5 days to €87.99 a month, stays above Airalo at every duration, and it does not state the Saudi operator before purchase.

    Pros

    • Built-in ad and tracker blocker, chat 24/7
    • Unlimited available from 5 to 30 days, plans up to 20 GB

    Cons

    • Fifth price per GB of six
    • Saudi operator not stated before purchase, unlimited pricier than Airalo
  6. Ubigi

    6. Ubigi

    6.2/10
    €2.50/GBLocal networksData plans, 1 to 10 GB, 7 or 30 days

Prices in euros, top-ups in the app, French support

Ubigi belongs to Transatel, a subsidiary of the NTT group. Prices are shown in euros, top-ups happen in the app and support answers by ticket, in French, which remains rare in this comparison. Its Saudi catalogue, though, is the shortest of the six: four plans, from 1 to 10 GB, with no unlimited.

The price is the highest in the comparison: €2.50/GB on a 10 GB valid 7 days at €25, and €2.70 per GB on the same volume over 30 days, nearly double Esimzon. It does not state the Saudi operator before purchase.

    Pros

    • Prices in euros, top-ups in the app, ticket support in French
    • 10 GB over 7 days for a week in Riyadh

    Cons

    • The highest price per GB in the comparison, nearly double the first
    • Four plans only, 10 GB maximum, no unlimited, operator not stated

Do WhatsApp calls work in Saudi Arabia?

Not reliably on a Saudi line. WhatsApp voice and video calls were restricted for years on the kingdom's networks, and since February 2026 travellers report they work intermittently on STC, Mobily and Zain lines, without any official announcement from the regulator, the CST, confirming it. Messages, photos and voice notes have always gone through. If you plan to video-call the family from Medina, do not build your trip on a local SIM.

A travel eSIM works in roaming: its traffic exits through the provider's home operator, and that is what generally lets WhatsApp calls through. voilà eSIM states "zero blocked apps" on its Saudi Arabia page; for the other providers, check the plan page before purchase. In any case, keep a plan B: FaceTime works on Saudi networks, and apps like Botim are allowed there.

eSIM or Saudi local SIM?

A local SIM remains possible: STC, Mobily and Zain run counters at the airports of Riyadh, Jeddah and Medina and sell prepaid visitor offers. Two constraints. Saudi law requires the registration of every line to an identified person, so passport, visa and a fingerprint scan at the counter, which takes time when a plane full of pilgrims has just landed. And if your phone has a single slot, you lose your home line for the length of the stay, along with your bank's texts.

A travel eSIM is bought online, installed before departure and costs, in this comparison, between €1.38 and €2.50 per GB. You keep your home line for calls and texts, with no counter and no fingerprints to give. Our rule: eSIM for an Umrah, a business trip or a tour of under six weeks, local SIM only for a long-term move, where you will need a Saudi number for paperwork.

What to check on your phone before buying

Two conditions: a phone that is eSIM compatible and carrier unlocked. iPhones from the XR onwards and recent Pixel, Galaxy S and other models are; the full list is on our eSIM compatible phones page. A phone bought subsidised from an operator may still be locked: ask for the unlock before you leave. And check your plan: Saudi Arabia is absent from the Free Mobile plans, as we detail in our article on the countries included with Free Mobile, and outside the zones of the other European operators.

Once the eSIM is installed, keep your home SIM active for calls and texts, turn off its data roaming, and turn on the Saudi Arabia eSIM's on arrival. Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, Medina and the motorways linking them are very well covered on 4G and 5G; the desert between Riyadh and AlUla and the secondary roads keep gaps, so download your maps offline. Every plan in the Saudi Arabia comparator is sold by providers that show compatibility before purchase. And if your trip continues in the region, the same comparison exists for the best eSIM for Dubai and the best eSIM for Egypt.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best eSIM for Saudi Arabia?
On our criteria, voilà eSIM: the STC network, the kingdom's widest, stated with 5G, "zero blocked apps", an eSIM that is simple to install, an app that is easy to use and human support 24/7. Its price per GB, €1.80 on the 20 GB, is only fourth of six. For the lowest price per GB, Esimzon wins with 10 GB at €13.76 on Mobily, and for unlimited, Airalo is the cheapest at every duration, from €11.50 for 3 days to €86.50 a month.
How much does an eSIM for Saudi Arabia cost?
Between €1.38 and €2.50 per GB depending on the provider, on 10 to 30 GB plans. A small one-week plan costs two to three times more per gigabyte, the cheapest 1 GB being €2.24. Unlimited is paid by the day: €11.50 for 3 days, €24 a week from the cheapest, €86.50 a month.
Which eSIM for an Umrah?
An eSIM with a solid network in the holy sites, where tens of thousands of phones connect in the same place, and enough data for the Nusuk app, ride-hailing and calls home. voilà eSIM runs on STC, the widest network, with human support 24/7; Esimzon is the cheapest per GB over 30 days, on Mobily; Airalo has the only 45-day plan and the cheapest unlimited for an Umrah followed by a stay. Budget 10 to 20 GB for two weeks if you video-call every day.
Do WhatsApp calls work in Saudi Arabia with an eSIM?
On a Saudi local SIM, WhatsApp voice and video calls were restricted for years and have worked only intermittently since February 2026, with no official announcement from the regulator; messages and voice notes go through. A travel eSIM works in roaming and its traffic exits through the home operator, which generally lets calls through: voilà eSIM states "zero blocked apps" on its Saudi Arabia page, for the other providers check the plan page before purchase. FaceTime and Botim work on local networks.
Do you need a passport for a SIM card in Saudi Arabia?
Yes, and more than that: the law requires every line to be registered to an identified person, with passport, visa and a fingerprint scan at the point of sale. A travel eSIM is bought online before departure, with no local registration, and activates by itself on arrival.
Does the eSIM work in Mecca and Medina?
Yes. The two holy cities and the motorway linking them to Jeddah are among the best-covered areas of the kingdom, on 4G and 5G, and the operators reinforce their antennas around the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque during Hajj and Ramadan. The network can slow down at prayer times, when everyone connects at once: a provider that states STC, like voilà eSIM, limits the damage, and download your maps ahead.
